Battle of Medway commemoration - launch ceremony

Thursday 8 June 2017 at The Historic Dockyard, Chatham from 2pm to 3pm

This exclusive VIP event starting at 2pm in Museum Square, will host a limited public audience of 1,800 alongside numerous VIPS from the UK and the Netherlands. The ceremony will include a royal salute, speeches and a parade with performances by the combined British and Dutch Royal Marine Bands – one of the very rare occasions when they will perform together.

VIPs attending include:

  • His Highness Prince Maurits of Orange-Nassau, van Vollenhoven
  • The First Sea Lord and Chief of Naval Staff Admiral Sir Philip Jones
  • The Viscount De L’Isle the Lord Lieutenant of Kent
  • Former Commander-in-Chief Fleet of the Royal Navy Admiral and Chairman of the Chatham Historic Dockyard Trust Sir Trevor Soar
  • Leader of Medway Council Cllr Alan Jarrett

You can get your free tickets to the formal Battle of Medway opening ceremony from 10am on Friday 26 May 2017.

Guests are advised to arrive between 1pm and 1.30pm ready for the event which will begin at 2pm and finish at 3pm. The attractions and exhibitions at the Historic Dockyard Chatham will not be open for general admission on this day and guests attending the event are required to leave the site by 4pm.

Travel and parking allowances and restrictions:

  • no on-site parking within the Historic Dockyard Chatham
  • Blue Badge holders can enter via Western Avenue, Chatham
  • non-blue badge holders are encouraged to use public transport to get to the event and can walk onto the site via Western Avenue or via the main gate entrance on Dock Road, Chatham
  • Dockside Outlet Centre care park is for customer use only
  • Public car parking is available in Chatham town centre, a 15 minute walk from The Historic Dockyard Chatham.

Access to the event is strictly for ticket holders only and anyone arriving on the day without a pre-booked ticket will not be allowed into the event. The Historic Dockyard Chatham may operate bag searches upon arrival. The Dockyard is closed for general visiting.
