Medway is set to be full of Christmas cheer this year with a host of fun filled events to make your trip to Medway extra special.
However, long your stay, there are plenty of activities to fill your time and get you into the festive spirit. If you’re struggling to organise your trip, fear not, we’ve got you covered with our festive itineraries.
A day in Rochester
When it comes to Christmas in the UK, the first thing that comes to mind is cobbled streets and twinkling lights, and of course, Father Christmas. If this sounds right up your alley, then a day in Rochester fits the bill.
If you’re only in the area for a day then you simply can’t miss out on the ever-popular Rochester Christmas Market where you can stock up on all the little extras to make your Christmas that little bit more special this year. We recommend heading over on the 2 or 3 December if you want to enjoy the full experience of both the Rochester Christmas Market and the Dickensian Christmas Festival.
Back in time for the weekend: The Victorian Experience
If, like us, you dream of a traditional Christmas like those you’ve read about in your favourite classic novels then be sure to head to the Dickensian Christmas Festival where you can soak up the vibrant, festive atmosphere.
The kids will love the events at Eastgate House, in particular, storytime with Father Christmas. You can even let them get crafty and make their own Victorian Christmas decoration to add a special homemade touch to your home this December.
To let off some steam we’d highly recommend letting the kids run wild with the Christmas trails at the Guildhall Museum whilst you enjoy a much-deserved tea or coffee. The Guildhall trees will be decorated from 17 November which will be a sight to see in itself.
Planning a longer visit
If modern-day Santa is more up your street, then what’s better than watching a whole crowd of them racing through the streets of Rochester? You can do just that with the Santa Fun Run, as part of Rochester’s annual Christmas light switch on event.
If you just can’t get enough of Christmas then why not challenge yourself to get to all of the Christmas light switch on events in Medway? This year Rainham will welcome Paddington Bear, and Strood’s lights will be switched on by the Mayor and Owlette from the hit children’s show, PJ Masks.
Just a reindeer’s leap to Chatham and you can revel in the festive Chatham Christmas celebrations through the high street. With acrobats, polar bears, jugglers, parades, and hula hooping, there’s something for everyone to enjoy.
And what’s that behind you? A panto! Oh no it isn't. Oh yes it is! It’s just not Christmas without a good old pantomime and this year you can enjoy Sleeping Beauty, we promise it won’t be a snore with its star-studded cast and the lively atmosphere of Chatham’s, The Central Theatre. There’s even one for the kids with The Lion who came for Christmas showing at the Brook Theatre.
If you haven’t finished your Christmas shopping, (or haven’t started yet) let us inspire you to make your own unique gifts with our arts and crafts sessions. There are sessions for adults at Rochester Adult Education Centre, and also kids crafts at Medway libraries.
If you'd like to personalise your trip further, then take a look at all our Christmas events or browse by location or type.
