If you'd like your child to be considered for a grammar school they will need to sit the Medway Test.
Once you register your child for the Medway Test, they will sit it and receive their results before the closing date for secondary school applications. This is to help you make an informed decision when applying for secondary schools.
The Medway Test is made up of three separate papers:
- Extended Writing
- Verbal Reasoning
These tests are written specifically for Medway Council and are designed to assess and select 23 per cent of the children in the year group as grammar. Up to a further two per cent can be selected through the review process.
What you need to know
- If you don't register for the test on time, your child will not be able to sit the test. You can't register at a later date and they won't be able to sit the test at a later date.
- Any child that is found to be cheating during the test or is not following instructions, may be removed from the test and their scores for the individual paper will be discounted. There will be no opportunity to resit the paper at a later date. They will, therefore, be withdrawn from all testing.
- We will not provide the original or a copy of your child's test paper(s) and there is no option for you to view test papers. Examination scripts are exempt from section 94 (right of access) as stated in Schedule 11 of the Data Protection Act 2018.
