Enjoying the River Medway

While you're here, why not enjoy the River Medway, ON the River Medway.

Jetstream tours

Jetstream Tours operates regular boat trips from Rochester Pier, but during the Battle of Medway festival will offer an additional pier stop for Upnor Castle.

This is a great way to get around Medway and a chance to discover the river’s strategic fortifications. All cruises offer an informative commentary with a spectacular opportunity to see Upnor Castle and the Historic Dockyard Chatham from the water. Hop-on hop-off opportunities with local river taxis will also be available along with Jetstream’s high speed Jetboat services from Sun Pier.

Edith May Thames Sailing Barge

The ‘Edith May’ is a fully restored example of an iconic Thames sailing barge. At one time, thousands of these crafts could be seen on the Medway and Thames, but now only a handful remain. Built in 1906 and relaunched in 2010, she now carries passengers in her cargo instead of grain.

Departing from Chatham maritime, opposite Upnor Castle, 1 hr, 3hr and full day excursions are available with a range of catering options.

Limited to 12 passengers per trip, it is an intimate experience where you can learn about the history of the Medway and even help crew this most historic of vessels.

Medway Sailing

Located at Chatham Maritime Marian, Medway Sailing provides an eco-friendly sailing experience along the River Medway and towards the Estuary, with an destimated five-hour trip, depending on wind and tide, which is ideal for those unfamiliar with sailing.

Trips include a choice of hot and cold drinks and a light lunch in a secluded part of the river.

Swanning About Charters

Spend the day on the Rivers Medway and Thames and beyond in a Swanning About Charters luxury yacht that most people dream about but doubt they will ever get the chance to experience.

Excursions are for groups of up to 10 people and arranged to suit your needs. They can be as short as one hour, or all day.

This is a great way to see the Medway area or the bridges and famous riverside buildings of London.
